Visiting Míša Dobiášová at Her Home

@michaela.dobi

This time around, we were invited to the home of creative and smiley Míša Dobiášová. A home full of sunshine, laughter, sweet smells and original accessories. We left her place filled with positive energy, loads of inspiration and the best banana bread ever.

As we stepped over your threshold, we instantly felt a wave of coziness and love. How did you achieve this?

I’m sure the four-legged welcome, the smell of freshly baked banana bread, and all sorts of candles and scented sticks are responsible.

How do you personalize a rented space?

I believe accessories and small details help to imprint a more personal style. I like to add freak items here and there to clean airy and simple interiors. Something that doesn't seem to fit in at first glance. Subtle minimalist designs with a touch of punk- that's mine.

The magic of an interior is best emphasized with personal style accessories, fresh flowers and charming details.

What makes a home?

Rozárka my dog, favourite smells and the warm and safe aura each person gives off.

And what is the smell of home?

It’s sweet. I love sweet and spicy home fragrances that evoke the coziness and happiness of freshly baked cakes.

Got any tips for us for favourite interior fragrances or candles?

Ah, interior fragrances and candles! Wherever I go, I test all kinds of local brands. I love trying out new ones and looking for the best. It's my guilty pleasure. One drawer in my chest of drawers is full of new fragrances waiting for when it's their turn. Lately, I really got into a few from Bohemian Lab and Perfumed Prague.

However, I also have no trouble admitting that I love going to Zara Home for their home fragrance diffusers, especially their limited winter editions. I equally adore candles by Bath & Body Works which make one's home smell amazing.

What room do you spend the most time in?

Definitely in the kitchen. It has the most natural light and a soothing view out to the garden.

What three words describe your “home”?

Oasis, peace, and sanctuary.

How often do you change and move things around in your apartment?

Actually, hardly ever. My apartment is quite small, so I don't have much maneuvering space. I'm glad everything has found its ‘home’ where it serves its function perfectly.

Which item in your apartment is the most searched and longed for?

I’m still looking for it and have been for ages! A sofa that’s small, comfy, stylish and maybe a little bit extravagant. (laughing)

Did you make anything in this apartment yourself?

Just a few plates, planters and a painting. I'd love to get into making more DIY crafts.

What makes any place look cozier?

Plants and flowers!

And what should every home have?

Good coffee, plants and flowers, a good vacuum cleaner and love.

What feelings does a freshly made bed evoke?

For me, duvets dressed in clean bed linen mean a free ticket to heaven! A place where I jump from one cloud to another, eat cotton candy and feel absolute happiness. It's my life hack to get me into bed early, because that way, I can’t wait to go to bed.

What new product could Lejaan add to its range?

Cozy curtains, beautiful carpets and kitchen towels. Oh, and pet beds too!

You made us a fantastic breakfast. Will you give us the recipe for your delicious banana bread?

Of course! I’d love to!

Ingredients:

6 very ripe bananas, 3 eggs, 30 g butter (or ghee), 150 ml kefir (TIP: I forgot to buy kefir once, so I came up with the famous "if you don't have... put in..." method. I had two kids’ Pribináček (vanilla flavoured curd cream)125g pots at hand. And since then, I add it to every one of my banana breads. Some sort of curd/cream desserts. Try it! Seriously!), 200 g fine spelt flour, 20 g coconut flour, 2 TSP cinnamon, 30 g panela sugar (or other sweetener), 20g baking powder, 1 TBS ground linseed, 1 TBS chia seeds, quality bitter chocolate, favourite jam (my favourite is sour cherry and ones with whole fruit pieces)

Method:

1) Preheat the oven to 180°C.

2) Place the 5 bananas, eggs, melted butter or ghee and milk into a blender. Blend until smooth.

3) In a larger bowl, mix together the dry ingredients - sifted flour, cinnamon, sweetener, baking powder, seeds and chopped chocolate.

4) Add the banana mixture to the dry mixture and mix to form a batter. Pour this into a loaf tin lined with baking paper.

5) Using a spoon, spoon a few dollops of jam onto the batter and use the other end to make spirals all over the surface of the dough. Decorate with the remaining banana and more chocolate. You can also add seeds or nuts to suit your taste.

6) Bake in a preheated oven for about an hour or until a wooden skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.

A beautiful interior, good food and loads of laughter. We’d love to visit Míša again and again.

My favourite ritual is….

to wake early and feel like I’m a step ahead of everyone. Walk my dog Rozárka, make some porridge, fresh coffee, light a palo santo stick and get down to work.

My favourite place in the home is…

the dining table by the large French window.

My favourite home décor is…

probably flowers again!

When at home, I most like to wear…

a bathrobe! And if not the bathrobe, then a soft, cosy tracksuit.

When someone visits for the first time, they’re most surprised by…

the fact that my place smells nice. (laughter) And also, my magic pantry, which can hide everything possible and impossible.

Which do you prefer- shower or bath?

Bath.

Are you an early bird or night owl?

That’s a hard one! I like to be both. But I constantly keep reminding myself that being the two is destructive and I mustn’t. (laughing) So, if I had to choose just one, I’d go for early bird.

Would you rather sleep under a million stars or in a luxury hotel?

I’d sleep one night under a million stars and take in the beauty of nature, and the next night, enjoy all the luxuries of a hotel. Can I cheat like this?

Do you prefer vintage or new things?

A bit of both.

Are you more of a minimalist or a maximalist?

A minimalist.

Do you prefer perfect order or creative chaos?

All my attempts at perfect order turn into creative chaos.

Do you prefer a night in bed or a night out partying?

In bed. (laughing)

Do you prefer coffee or tea in the morning?

Coffee

Do you prefer monotone bed-making or Mix & Match?

I would usually say monochrome, but I like to be a little more daring recently, so Mix & Match!
